Octopus Boiler Cover vs Competitors
In terms of pricing, you would be hard-pressed to find a lower cover especially since there is no excess fee with the Octopus boiler cover plans. Let’s see how they compare to other boiler cover plans by well-known providers.
Octopus boiler cover vs British Gas
British Gas is a UK favourite and is used and trusted by many homeowners. Their fee on a basic plan is £19.00 per month, which includes an annual boiler service, and cover for parts, labour, your boiler and controls.
Although you have unlimited call-outs, each call-out costs £60.00 (excess). Opting for the Octopus service plan is a more cost-effective option in comparison given that there is zero excess and no call-out fee.
Octopus boiler cover vs HomeServe
HomeServe has an impressive 4.5 Trustpilot rating, but Octopus has the advantage with 4.8. In terms of cost, HomeServe is slightly cheaper compared to other basic boiler cover plans and provides more coverage to their customers. The various plans have optional excess, ranging from £0 to £100.
Their mid-range Heating, Plumbing and Electric Cover Plan is £16.00 per month and includes free servicing within your first year. On the other hand, Octopus customers on a standard warranty plan are not covered for annual servicing.
Octopus boiler cover vs Hometree
Hometree provides comprehensive cover from £24.99 per month, with an excess of £95.00. In comparison, Octopus is the more cost-effective alternative.
Hometree does, however, provide coverage for your boiler, gas supply pipe, and flue controls. Additionally, a free replacement boiler may be provided if yours is beyond economical repair and under seven years old.

Our Verdict
Octopus offers a generous service plan and an impressive warranty. Plus, their standard plan is free with your heat pump installation. This cover is ideal for those leaning towards heat pumps. However, if you are looking to cover a gas boiler, you will need to explore other policy options.
