Designed to protect you against boiler breakdown, EDF plans are simple and will cover the costs of your annual service as well as any repairs, provided your boiler is less than 15 years old.

However, this is certainly not the only boiler cover you have to choose from, so what makes them stand out? We’ll take a closer look at EDF’s boiler cover packages and how they compare to competitors to help you make a more informed decision about the best boiler cover.

Is EDF Boiler Cover Worth It?

Yes, boiler cover from EDF Energy is worth it. The company has some great reviews on Trustpilot, with an average rating of 4.4 out of 5. Happy customers are quick to point out their excellent service and the team’s willingness to go above and beyond to solve issues relating to a faulty boiler.

Another plus is that EDF’s boiler cover packages are simple and transparent, meaning you won’t be left guessing about what you’re covered for.

What does EDF boiler cover include?

EFD boiler cover includes:

  • Cover for boilers, heating controls and boiler central heating system
  • Annual service by qualified Gas Safe engineers
  • A replacement boiler up to £750, if required
  • Up to £2,000 per year for home emergency claims related to plumbing, drains, wiring and pests
  • 24/7 phone support

Over and above their two boiler cover plans, EDF also offers a range of maintenance and support plans. Each of their plans also comes with two months of free cover, which can save you some money in the first year.

Types of EDF Boiler Cover Plans

Here’s a closer look at the different types of plans you can choose from as an EDF Energy customer.

BoilerCare Value policy

  • Monthly cost: £7, £12.40 or £17.80 (depending on chosen excess)
  • Excess: £95, £50 or £0

With the basic boiler cover from EDF, a boiler service is included as well as cover for your controls and heating equipment. You will also receive a replacement boiler worth up to £750 if your boiler is Beyond Economical Repair. Unfortunately, this plan won’t cover your annual service.

BoilerCare Total policy

  • Monthly cost: £20.40, £23.80 or £34 (depending on chosen excess)
  • Excess: £95, £50 or £0

This plan is more comprehensive and will include everything in the Value policy as well as up to £2,000 in total per year for temporary repairs for home emergency claims.

What are the Pros and Cons of EDF Boiler Cover?

Let’s get into some of the pros and cons of signing up for boiler cover from EDF.

Pros

  • Simple and transparent packages and pricing.
  • Good value for money.
  • Extra emergency services are included in the top-tier plan.

Cons

  • No like-for-like replacement of bespoke or non-standard parts.
  • The basic plan doesn’t include an annual boiler service.
  • Boilers older than 15 years are not covered.

EDF Claims Process

Once you sign up for an EDF Energy policy, you won’t be able to submit a claim for the first 14 days. This also means you benefit from a 14-day cooling-off period, giving you the option to cancel the plan if you change your mind.

In terms of submitting a claim, you simply need to contact their call centre with all the necessary details, including your policy number. Gas Safe engineers will then be dispatched to assist you.

EDF Boiler Cover vs Competitors

Before you decide whether EDF’s packages are right for you, let’s look at how they compare to some of their top competitors.

EDF boiler cover vs British Gas

British Gas, one of EDF’s main competitors, is slightly more expensive when it comes to basic boiler cover. However, for a top-tier plan, the cost works out to be the same, but you do get more with a British Gas plan. Their top boiler cover includes repairs to main electric systems and drains as well as repairs or replacement of your British Gas-installed electric vehicle charger unit.

EDF boiler cover vs Hometree

When we compare EDF to Hometree, Hometree’s premiums for boiler cover are slightly lower. Your annual boiler service is also included with a basic plan, which isn’t the case with EDF. Where they are similar is that both EDF and Hometree will provide you with a replacement boiler if it’s deemed Beyond Economical Repair, but without a cost cap.

EDF boiler cover vs HomeServe

When compared to EDF, HomeServe is slightly more expensive for a basic plan but charges less for its top-tier plan. HomeServe only gives you two excess options. If you opt for the lowest excess of £60, you will pay more for their basic plan. EDF, on the other hand, can bring your excess down to £0 if you choose to pay more for a plan.
