| 7.1 kW | £3,520.80 | £2,934 | 6.50 | 4.20 | 30 dB(A) |
Equipment prices are from Oceanair UK’s October 2026 listings. Efficiency and noise figures come from Panasonic UK’s Etherea specifications.
The 2.5 and 3.5 kW models are particularly attractive because they achieve A+++ seasonal efficiency ratings for both heating and cooling.
Their SEER of 9.50 indicates excellent cooling efficiency, while a SCOP of 5.20 means they can deliver approximately 5.2 kWh of heat for every kWh of electricity consumed under standardised seasonal test conditions.
Efficiency falls on some of the larger capacities, so always compare the exact model being quoted.
Is Panasonic Etherea the same as the Z range?
Panasonic does not list a separate domestic range simply called Z.
The letter Z in model codes such as CS-Z25 identifies the Etherea family.
Panasonic also offers an Etherea Inverter+ version without nanoe X technology, which has similarly quiet operation.
Check the full model code to establish which version you are buying.
Panasonic TZ prices: the compact alternative
The Panasonic TZ is Panasonic’s more affordable, compact wall-mounted range.
Its main advantage is its small indoor unit, which measures approximately 765–779 mm wide across the 2.0–5.0 kW sizes.
That can make it suitable for bedrooms or other rooms with limited wall space.
The TZ also offers:
- Indoor noise levels starting at 20 dB(A)
- Panasonic Comfort Cloud Wi-Fi control
- Heating operation down to -15°C
- An optional version with nanoe X Generator Mark 2 air treatment

|---|---|---|---|
| 2.0 kW | £1,162.80 | £969 | 4.6 |
| 2.5 kW | £1,339.20 | £1,116 | 4.6 |
| 3.5 kW | £1,549.20 | £1,291 | 4.6 |
| 5.0 kW | £1,970.40 | £1,642 | 4.5 |
| 7.1 kW | £2,809.20 | £2,341 | 4.0–4.1 |
Prices are from Oceanair UK’s October 2026 listings. Efficiency figures come from Panasonic UK’s TZ with nanoe X and standard TZ specifications.
Panasonic Etherea vs TZ: which is better value?
At 2.5 kW, the TZ costs £331.20 less than the Etherea on Oceanair UK’s list.
However, the Etherea has a higher SCOP of 5.2, compared with 4.6 for the TZ.
That means the Etherea uses less electricity to produce the same amount of heat under standardised seasonal conditions.
Using Ofgem’s October to December 2026 electricity rate of 26.32p per kWh, Panasonic’s annual energy label figures give approximately:
| Model, 2.5 kW | Annual heating and cooling electricity | Illustrative annual cost |
|---|---|---|
| Etherea | 792 kWh | £208 |
| TZ | Approximately 850 kWh | £224 |
The difference is approximately £15 per year.
At that level of consumption, the £331.20 equipment saving would take around 22 years to be offset by the Etherea’s lower electricity use.
This is a simplified comparison using energy label conditions, not a forecast of actual household consumption.
The Etherea also offers additional features and can operate in heating mode at lower outdoor temperatures.
If you want an affordable system for occasional heating and cooling, the TZ may provide better value.
If you expect to use the system extensively for heating, the Etherea’s higher efficiency may be more attractive.
Our air conditioning running costs guide explains how real-world usage affects these figures.
How much does Panasonic multi-split air conditioning cost?
A Panasonic multi-split system connects two or more indoor units to a single outdoor unit.
This can be useful when installing air conditioning in several rooms while reducing the number of outdoor units required.
According to Panasonic UK’s multi-split range information, compatible Etherea systems can serve between two and five indoor units.
Panasonic offers outdoor units including:
- CU-2Z41TBE and CU-2Z50TBE for two-room configurations
- CU-3Z52TBE and CU-3Z68TBE for three-room configurations
The 5.0 kW two-room systems have a published SEER of 8.50 and SCOP of 4.60.
Panasonic multi-split installation prices
| Installation | Estimated fitted price | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Two rooms | £2,800–£4,500 | Airtasker |
| Two rooms | £2,800–£5,000 | Air Con Surrey |
| Three to four rooms | £3,500–£9,500+ | Airtasker |
| Additional 2.5 kW Etherea indoor unit, supply only | From £572.40 inc VAT | Oceanair |
| Additional 5.0 kW Etherea indoor unit, supply only | From £910.80 inc VAT | Oceanair |
Panasonic multi-split outdoor units are generally listed with trade pricing, so we cannot provide a reliable public equipment price for every combination.
The final installation cost depends on the number of indoor units, required capacities, pipework lengths and outdoor unit placement.
A multi-split system is not automatically cheaper than installing separate single-room systems.
For example, separate outdoor units may sometimes be easier to install if the rooms are far apart.
Our split vs multi-split air conditioning guide explains when each option makes sense.
Panasonic air conditioning warranty and nanoe X technology
Two of Panasonic’s main selling points are its extended warranty options and nanoe X air-treatment technology.
How long is the Panasonic air conditioning warranty?
According to Panasonic UK’s air-to-air warranty guidance, the manufacturer offers three warranty levels.
| Warranty | Duration | Requirements |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | 3 years | Standard qualifying installation |
| Extended | 5 years | Panasonic-trained installer registered with Panasonic, Refcom or an affiliated body |
| Extended+ | 7 years | Additional commissioning documentation approved through Panasonic Pro Club |
The warranty covers parts and labour for manufacturing defects, subject to the applicable conditions.
All three levels require annual maintenance records.
The warranty documentation also states that servicing by an unapproved provider can reduce coverage to the standard three-year level.
Before accepting a quotation, ask the installer to confirm which warranty level is included and what maintenance you will need to arrange.
What is Panasonic nanoe X?
Panasonic’s nanoe X technology uses hydroxyl radicals to treat the air.
The Etherea range includes nanoe X Generator Mark 3, while certain TZ models use Mark 2.
According to Panasonic’s own testing information, Mark 3 inhibited cedar pollen by 99% or more in three hours, compared with 12 hours for Mark 2.
These are manufacturer-reported test results, not independent measurements of performance in a typical UK home.
Panasonic also says nanoe X can operate when heating and cooling are switched off.
Although the feature may be useful for indoor air treatment, it should not be treated as a substitute for adequate ventilation.
VAT, grants and installation costs
Is there VAT on Panasonic air conditioning?
Qualifying installations of permanently fixed air-to-air heat pumps are currently zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027.
According to HMRC’s VAT Notice 708/6, most fixed air conditioning units can qualify as air source heat pumps because they provide heating as well as cooling.
Under the published rules, the reduced VAT rate of 5% applies from 1 April 2027.
However, portable units and equipment purchased without qualifying installation generally attract standard 20% VAT.
This distinction is important when comparing equipment-only prices with fitted quotations.
Can you get a grant for Panasonic air conditioning?
The government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme includes a £2,500 grant for eligible air-to-air heat pump installations.
However, the grant is not available for every air conditioning installation.
According to Ofgem’s guidance, the system must replace an existing fossil fuel or electric heating system and be designed to meet the heating requirements of the whole property.
A single air conditioning unit installed primarily for summer cooling would not necessarily qualify.
Daikin’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme guidance also notes that MCS accreditation arrangements for air-to-air heat pumps are still being finalised.
Ask your installer to confirm eligibility and accreditation in writing before including the grant in your budget.
What should a Panasonic installation quote include?
A suitable quotation should identify:
- The exact indoor and outdoor model codes
- The heating and cooling capacities
- The length of refrigerant pipework included
- The outdoor unit location and mounting arrangement
- Any condensate pump requirements
- Who supplies and installs the electrical connection
- The applicable VAT rate
- The warranty duration and maintenance requirements
For example, Costco’s Etherea installation package requires a suitable 230V single-phase electrical supply, with the required current depending on the model.
The installer should confirm whether this is already available or whether additional electrical work is needed.
Panasonic’s systems are reversible air-to-air heat pumps, which means they can provide heating as well as cooling.
Our guide to air source heat pumps vs air conditioners explains the terminology and differences.
Panasonic vs Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric prices
Panasonic competes directly with Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric in the UK domestic air conditioning market.
According to Airtasker’s August 2026 installation cost guide, the brands fall into the following fitted price ranges.
| Brand | Typical fitted price range |
|---|---|
| Panasonic | £1,600–£3,100 |
| Daikin | £1,800–£3,500 |
| Mitsubishi Electric | £1,800–£3,500 |
Costco’s starting prices provide another comparison:
| Product range | Starting fitted price |
|---|---|
| Mitsubishi Electric Elegance | £1,849.99 |
| Daikin Perfera | £1,999.99 |
| Panasonic Etherea | £2,149.99 |
These are advertised starting prices for different model selections, not a like-for-like comparison of identical capacities.
Panasonic’s Etherea offers strong efficiency, particularly at 2.5 and 3.5 kW, while the TZ provides a more affordable alternative.
The best choice will depend on the exact model, installer availability and warranty arrangements.

How long is the Panasonic air conditioning warranty?
Panasonic UK offers a standard three-year parts and labour warranty for qualifying manufacturing defects.
The warranty can increase to five years with a Panasonic-trained and appropriately registered installer.
Seven-year coverage requires additional commissioning documentation approved through Panasonic Pro Club.
Annual maintenance records are required, and servicing arrangements can affect warranty eligibility.
Do Panasonic air conditioners heat as well as cool?
Yes.
Panasonic Etherea and TZ systems are reversible air-to-air heat pumps.
For example, the 2.5 kW Etherea is rated to deliver 3.40 kW of heating using 0.70 kW of electricity at its nominal test point.
It can operate in heating mode at outdoor temperatures down to -20°C.
However, heating capacity changes with outdoor temperature. At -7°C, the 2.5 kW Etherea’s output falls to approximately 2.80 kW.
The system should therefore be sized for the property’s heating requirements rather than relying only on its nominal capacity.
Is there VAT on Panasonic air conditioning installation?
Qualifying installations of fixed air-to-air heat pumps are zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027.
Under HMRC’s published rules, the reduced 5% VAT rate applies from 1 April 2027.
Equipment purchased separately without qualifying installation, along with portable air conditioners, generally attracts standard 20% VAT.
Ask your installer to confirm the VAT treatment on the quotation.
Our Verdict
For most UK homeowners, the Panasonic Etherea 2.5 or 3.5 kW is the strongest option in the range.
Both achieve a SCOP of 5.2, offer indoor noise levels starting at 19 dB(A) and can qualify for warranty coverage of up to seven years when installed and maintained according to Panasonic’s requirements.
Expect to pay approximately £1,800–£2,500 for a typical single-room installation, although the final price depends on the property.
The TZ is worth considering if your budget is tighter or you need a particularly compact indoor unit.
Its lower equipment price may outweigh the relatively modest difference in running costs for occasional use.
For two or more rooms, compare surveyed multi-split quotations against the cost of separate systems.
Whichever model you choose, make sure the quote confirms the electrical work, pipework, VAT treatment and warranty.
Eco Happy can help you compare suitable Panasonic air conditioning installations and obtain a quotation for your property.
