The challenge
The homeowners were seeing their electricity bills continue to rise and wanted to reduce how much energy they needed to buy from the grid. They were particularly interested in battery storage, allowing electricity generated by their solar panels during the day to be stored and used later when the family was at home and demand was higher.
What Eco Happy recommended
After reviewing the property’s roof space and electricity usage, Eco Happy recommended combining solar PV with battery storage. The system was designed around the household’s expected generation and consumption rather than simply fitting as many panels as possible. A 10-panel solar array was paired with 9 kWh of battery storage to help the family make better use of the electricity generated at home.
The installation
Eco Happy installed 10 roof-mounted solar panels alongside a hybrid inverter and 9 kWh battery. During daylight hours, the panels generate electricity that can be used directly around the home. Any excess generation can be stored in the battery, ready to be used later when household demand increases.
The results
The completed system is expected to generate approximately 4,500 kWh of electricity each year, with an estimated annual energy benefit of up to £1,000. The battery allows the family to use more of the electricity generated on their roof rather than exporting it immediately, while also giving them the option to charge from cheaper off-peak electricity where their tariff supports it.
